Welcome to Schools Water Daily
At Schools Water Daily, we believe every child in South Africa deserves access to safe, clean water at school. Our mission is simple but urgent: to shine a light on the water challenges facing our schools and to amplify the voices of those working to solve them.
What We Do
We deliver daily, reliable updates on water safety, health risks, infrastructure failures, and policy changes affecting South African schools. From rural Eastern Cape classrooms to urban Cape Town schools, we track how water access—or the lack of it—impacts learning, attendance, and student well-being.
Topics We Cover
Our reporting focuses on:
- Water quality and contamination in school taps and boreholes
- Breakdowns in plumbing, sanitation, and hygiene infrastructure
- Government policies and funding decisions related to school water
- Community-led initiatives and NGO interventions
- Health impacts on students and staff from unsafe water
- Environmental sustainability and water conservation efforts in schools
About the Creator
I’m Landon Vogel, a Cape Town-based journalist and education advocate with over a decade of experience covering public infrastructure and social equity. I’ve seen firsthand how a broken tap can derail a child’s day—and how a single policy change can transform an entire school. This site was born from countless conversations with teachers, parents, and learners who told me they needed a trusted source for water-related news in their schools. So I built it.
Why This Website Exists
South Africa’s school water crisis isn’t just a technical issue—it’s an educational justice issue. When children drink contaminated water or miss school because there’s no toilet, learning suffers. Yet these stories rarely make national headlines. Schools Water Daily exists to fill that gap: to report not just what’s broken, but who’s trying to fix it, and how you can help.
Our Values
We are committed to accuracy, empathy, and action. Every article is researched with care, verified with local sources, and written with the students and educators in mind. We don’t just report problems—we highlight solutions, celebrate community efforts, and hold authorities accountable. Our work is independent, non-partisan, and free from corporate influence.
